Vol. 559 No. 5

Written Answers. - Outdoor Education Centres.

David Stanton

Ceist:

238 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Education and Science the outdoor education centres recognised for funding by his Department; the amount made available to staff and run each centre in 2002; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26819/02]

There are nine vocational education committee outdoor education centres formally recognised for the purposes of grant aid. Funding for these outdoor education centres was originally approved on the understanding that they would be self-financing. Accordingly, my Department's annual grants are contributory in nature and the allocations go towards the staffing and equipping costs involved in running the centres.

My Department has made the following allocations in 2002 for the nine centres:

Achill, County Mayo

120,000

Birr, County Offaly

150,000

Burren, County Clare

140,000

Cappanalea, County Kerry

200,000

Gartan, County Donegal

160,000

Kilfinane, County Limerick

155,000

Kinsale, County Cork

141,000

Petersburg, County Galway

160,000

Shielbaggan, County Wexford

160,000
