Vol. 560 No. 1

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Joe Costello

Ceist:

347 Mr. Costello asked the Minister for Education and Science his proposals for the future development of Coláiste Mhuire, Parnell Square, Dublin 1; the way he intends to accommodate the students and staff in the meantime; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1039/03]

The 2003 capital programme has now been published and full details in relation to individual projects are available on my Department's website at www.education.ie.

The students and staff at Coláiste Mhuire, Parnell Square, Dublin 1, have recently been accommodated in alternative temporary accommodation. The project as originally envisaged at Parnell Square will not proceed. Alternative sites are being explored.

Ned O'Keeffe

I am pleased to inform the Deputy that temporary accommodation for the school in question has been included in the 2003 programme and my Department's building unit will be in contact with the school's management authorities as soon as possible.

Ned O'Keeffe

Ceist:

349 Mr. N. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Education and Science if approval will be granted for a project (details supplied) in County Cork to proceed to stage 3. [1061/03]

The 2003 capital programme has now been published and full details in relation to individual projects are available on my Department's website at www.education.ie.

The project referred to by the Deputy is currently at stage 2 of architectural planning. However, on the basis of the budgetary allocation, projects in this category will not be authorised to progress beyond their current stage.

The matter of further progress will be reviewed in the light of the capital allocation for the 2004 school building programme and subsequent years.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

350 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Education and Science when a decision will be made to appoint a design team for the proposed extension to Glanmire community college, Cork. [1062/03]

In view of the scale of the building programme as now published, and having regard to the level of financial commitments to be met from projects already in construction, it will not be possible to allow any further large scale projects into architectural planning during 2003.

As a consequence, my Department will not be in a position to authorise the appointment of a design team for the proposed extension to Glanmire community college, County Cork.

This matter will be reviewed in the light of the capital allocation for the 2004 school building programme.
