Gerard Murphy

144 Mr. Murphy asked the Minister for Transport the impact of the 2003 Estimates on the national development plan; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2641/03]

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

161 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Transport if he will review the national development plan in view of the spatial strategy; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2643/03]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 102, 111, 144 and 161 together.

I expect that all the projects in the rail, road and aviation sectors which are being funded under the national development plan will be completed. Some projects will, however, run beyond the time limit of the plan but it is not possible to identify them at this stage as completion of the NDP programme will be dependent on funding levels and the prevailing budgetary and economic situation over the coming years.

The 2003 Estimates for my Department show the significant investment that is being made in the provision of transport infrastructure and clearly demonstrates the Government's strong ongoing commitment to the NDP programme and to maintaining a high level of investment in infrastructural projects. A review of the NDP will be undertaken in the current year taking into account the national spatial strategy and prevailing economic conditions.
