120 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Transport the steps he has taken to date to address the problem many travellers have in meeting the security arrangements requiring all passengers to present a passport or driving licence when travelling with a company (details supplied) to the UK; if his attention has been drawn to the enormous inconvenience this causes for poorer and older passengers who in many cases do not possess such documentation; if he has had discussions with this company on this matter; his plans to regulate this area; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I would first like to point out that the company referred to is a privately owned company and any identity requirements laid down are contractual issues between the airline and its customers. I understand that the company's requirements in relation to acceptable forms of identification are clearly set down in the terms and conditions they provide to passengers when booking and purchasing tickets. The question of presentation of an appropriate means of identification at boarding gates for reconciliation with boarding cards is currently under consideration as a security measure by the National Civil Aviation Security Committee.
