Vol. 560 No. 4

Written Answers. - Overseas Companies.

Martin Ferris

Ceist:

179 Mr. Ferris asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the number of overseas companies specialising in the healthcare, pharmaceutical and medical sectors which visited Ireland in 2002; and the number which were taken to or referred to County Kerry by the IDA. [2807/03]

In 2002, there were 25 first time site visits of overseas pharmaceutical and healthcare-medical device companies to Ireland. There were no visits to County Kerry.

Pharmaceutical and healthcare-medical device companies usually have very specific requirements for infrastructure, services and relevant third level courses.

County Kerry tends to be more attractive for foreign direct investment in international services, software and the Ebusiness sectors.
