Vol. 560 No. 4

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Jack Wall

Ceist:

212 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Education and Science when a fourth teacher will be appointed to Brannockstown national school, Kilcullen, County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2819/03]

The staffing of a primary school is determined by reference to the enrolment of the school on 30 September of the previous school year. The number of mainstream teaching posts sanctioned is determined by reference to a staffing schedule which is finalised for a particular school year following discussions with the education partners.

The staffing of the school referred to by the Deputy is a principal and two mainstream class teachers based on an enrolment of 74 pupils on 30 September 2001. The school also has the services of a shared resource teacher. This is the correct staffing level for the school in question and is in accordance with the staffing schedule currently in place. Arrangements are under way in my Department for the issue of the staffing schedule for the 2003-04 school year. Once this process is completed, the staffing schedule will issue to the boards of management of all primary schools and will also be posted on my Department's website.
