The amount of money spent from the Vote of the Department of Transport (formerly the Department of Public Enterprise) on media advertising from 1 January 2001 to date is as follows: January 2001-31 December 2001, €324,287; January 2002-31 December 2002, €261,443; January 2003-11 February 2003, €12,509.
The costs incurred were mainly in respect of advertising in national newspapers, and included such items as the national emergency plan, the public consultation on the strategic rail review, invitation of submissions on the regulatory framework for bus services outside the greater Dublin area, relocation of road haulage division and advertising in the phone book. Other items included the publication of statutory instruments, advertising in Iris Oifigiúil and other specialist magazines.
These figures include all the Department of Public Enterprise expenditure to 17 June 2002 and all the Department of Transport expenditure from 18 June 2002. As a result, year-by-year figures are not comparable.
