318 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he has completed his investigation into illegal dumping in County Wicklow; if this report will be made public; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4062/03]
I have no statutory function in the investigation or prosecution of criminal offences. However, I have had inquiries made of the Garda authorities and have been informed that the Garda investigation into this matter is ongoing. A number of files have been submitted to the Director of Public Prosecutions for direction and other files are in the course of preparation. The Deputy will appreciate that it would be inappropriate for me to comment further at this stage. I also refer the Deputy to replies on 4 February 2003 – Questions Nos. 118 and 413 – by the Minister for the Environment and Local Government in relation to this issue.
