Vol. 561 No. 4

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Joan Burton

Ceist:

285 Ms Burton asked the Minister for Education and Science the position in respect of the proposal to rebuild a new school for Coolmine community school, Dublin 15; when he expects work to begin on the project; the estimated cost; and if his attention has been drawn to the urgent need of the school in view of the severely deteriorated state of the building. [4498/03]

The 2003 capital programme has been published and full details in relation to individual projects are available on my Department's website at www.education.ie.

The project at Coolmine community school has not yet commenced architectural planning. Given the level of financial commitments to be met from projects on the 2003 programme, it will not be possible to allow the project to commence this process this year. The project will, however, be considered for the 2004 school building programme.

Ceist:

286 Ms Burton asked the Minister for Education and Science when work will begin on a permanent school for Mary Mother of Hope national school, Castaheeny, in view of the exceptional number of houses built in the catchment area of the school and the concerns of parents that to date only temporary accommodation has been provided for the rapidly growing school population. [4499/03]

The 2003 school building programme has now been published and full details in relation to individual projects are available on my Department's website at www.education.ie. On the basis of the budgetary allocation it was not possible to include any further projects in 2003.

The budgetary allocation for 2004 and subsequent years will determine the rate of progress on projects that could not be included in this year's programme.
