Vol. 561 No. 4

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Brian O'Shea

Ceist:

301 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Education and Science further to Parliamentary Question No. 235 of 12 February 2003, if he will address the four specific questions raised. [4725/03]

The 2003 school building programme has now been published and full details in relation to individual projects are available on my Department's website at www.education.ie. On the basis of the budgetary allocation it was not possible to include any further projects in 2003. The budgetary allocation for 2004 and subsequent years will determine the rate of progress on projects that could not be included in this year's programme.

Ceist:

302 Mr. N. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will reconsider the provision of funding in respect of a school project (details supplied) in County Cork. [4726/03]

Breeda Moynihan-Cronin

Ceist:

303 Ms B. Moynihan-Cronin asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will meet with representatives of meánscoil an Leith-Triúigh, Cloghane, County Kerry, to discuss the poor conditions which are currently endured by both staff and pupils, and assist them with the provision of a new school; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4727/03]

In view of the scale of the 2003 capital programme as now published, and available on my Department's website at www.education.ie and having regard to the level of financial commitments to be met from projects already in construction, the Department does not envisage that it will be in a position during this year to authorise any additional large scale projects to proceed to construction in 2003 including the project at meanscoil an Leith-Triúigh, Cloghane, County Kerry, other than those listed in section four of the programme.

In light of this approach to the schools capital programme, it would be unfair to other schools for me to become involved in discussions on individual projects or to receive a deputation from a particular school as this might create the impression that decisions were going to be taken on building projects on the basis of criteria other than the objective criteria outlined by my Department.
