Vol. 561 No. 5

Written Answers. - Decentralisation Programme.

Billy Timmins

Ceist:

127 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for Defence the extent of the decentralisation which took place to Clonmel, County Tipperary; if all involved came from Dublin; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4564/03]

The following military units comprising 23 personnel have been decentralised to Clonmel. The Directorate of the Military Police relocated from Dublin on 1 October 2002 and involved two officers and two non-commissioned personnel appointments. The Directorate of the Reserve Force relocated from Dublin on 1 October 2002 and involved four officers and five non-commissioned personnel appointments. The headquarters of 1 southern brigade of the FCA relocated from Limerick on 30 September 2002 and involved three officers and seven non-commissioned personnel appointments.

Five officers in total, two from the directorate of the Military Police and three from the directorate of the Reserve Force decentralised from Dublin to Clonmel. An officer vacancy exists in the directorate of the Reserve Force due to an overseas posting, but the officer concerned will resume this appointment on his return from overseas service. Non-commissioned personnel who were resident in Dublin were re-assigned to postings in the greater Dublin area. Non-commissioned personnel from 1 southern brigade, six from Clonmel and one from Kilkenny, were posted to Clonmel to fill the posts in the directorates of the Military Police Corps and Reserve Force. All personnel from 1 southern brigade of the FCA relocated from Limerick to Clonmel.
