Vol. 561 No. 5

Written Answers. - Company Closures.

Pat Breen

Ceist:

157 Mr. P. Breen asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if she has made contact with the directors of a company (details supplied) in County Clare in relation to the abrupt closure of the company on 7 February 2003; when the company will be put into liquidation; if the staff will receive statutory redundancy packages; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [4842/03]

My Department has sent registered letters to the principals of the company reminding them of their responsibilities under employment law. I am not yet aware of when or whether the company will be put into liquidation. Yesterday my Department succeeded in making contact with a director of the company.

My Department is responsible for the statutory redundancy payments scheme and will therefore ensure that all eligible employees of the company receive their full statutory redundancy lump sums under the Redundancy Payments Acts 1967 to 2001. This will be done as quickly as possible. All of these statutory redundancy payments will be free of taxation.
