Ceist:194 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Transport the position regarding a suitable location for a mobile test centre (details supplied) in County Donegal; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5927/03]
Written Answers - National Car Test.
The tender documents for the car testing contract set out the specific performance standards that were required for the service, which included a requirement that each test centre be located within 30 miles of 90% of car owners that it would serve. I am satisfied that the 43 test centres operated by National Car Testing Service Limited meet the specified travelling distance requirement of the contract.
There are three NCT centres in Donegal which are in Donegal town, Letterkenny and Derrybeg.
The provision of additional testing facilities above the tender specification would have cost implications for the company and would have consequences for the test fees payable by motorists. I understand that the company has no plans for the provision of further test centres in the Donegal region.
