Vol. 562 No. 3

Written Answers - Schools Building Projects.

Dinny McGinley

Ceist:

59 Mr. McGinley asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will re-assess his recent decision not to approve funding for the development of a vocational school in County Donegal during 2003. [5737/03]

The 2003 capital programme has been published and full details in relation to individual projects are available on my Department's website at www.education.ie.

When publishing the programme, I stressed the importance of an open and transparent system for deciding priorities and I also published the criteria used by my Department. I believe that this is the fairest way to deal with all schools.

In light of this approach, it would be unfair to other schools for me to revisit individual school projects as this might create the impression that decisions were going to be taken on building projects on the basis of criteria other than the objective criteria outlined by my Department.

The project in question will be considered for the 2004 capital programme.
