Vol. 562 No. 5

Written Answers - Television Licence Fee.

Cecilia Keaveney

Ceist:

277 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources the implications which have arisen from RTE's announcement that it is to scrap the free television licence for all future pensioners; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6612/03]

I understand that at present RTE pays for a television licence for retired RTE employees who have not yet qualified for a free licence paid for by the Department of Social and Family Affairs. RTE recently decided not to continue this practice in respect of people retiring from the organisation. This is entirely a matter for RTE and has no bearing for those people who are in receipt of a television licence paid for by the Department of Social and Family Affairs.

Question No. 278 answered with Question No. 276.
