Vol. 565 No. 2

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Emmet Stagg

Ceist:

221 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Education and Science the position in the past two years in relation to the acquisition of a site for a new national school in Kill, County Kildare, by the property management section of the Office of Public Works; if it advertises in the area for suitable sites; if offers were made on sites; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10484/03]

The 2003 school building programme has now been published and full details in relation to individual projects, including expenditure allocated for site acquisition is available on my Department's website at www.education.ie.

On the basis of the budgetary allocation it was not possible to include any further projects-site acquisitions in 2003.

The budgetary allocation for 2004 and subsequent years will determine the rate of progress on projects including site acquisitions that could not be included in this year's programme. In the meantime, individual schools should use their devolved grant to deal with any urgent health and safety works.

Ceist:

222 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will sanction works (details supplied) which are required to the Salesian College, Celbridge, County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10485/03]

The 2003 capital programme has been published and full details in relation to individual projects are available on my Department's website at www.education.ie.

Given the level of financial commitments to be met from projects already in construction, I do not envisage that my Department will be in a position during this year to initiate architectural planning for any further large scale building projects, including the project at the Salesian College, Celbridge. The project will, however, be considered in the context of the capital programme for 2004.
