Vol. 565 No. 2

Written Answers. - Coastal Protection.

Brian O'Shea

Ceist:

297 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources the position regarding cliff stabilisation at Dock Road and Island Lane, Dunmore East, County Waterford (details supplied). [10555/03]

The position is that my Department in conjunction with consultants are re-examining the level of works necessary to stabilise the cliff at Dock Road. Any works proposed for the stabilisation will be undertaken so as not to interfere with the nesting habitat of the kittiwake colony. If possible, a scheme will be designed to improve the nesting conditions for the birds. I have allocated funding in respect of cliff stabilisation works at the Dock Road and Island Road this year.

In regard to the work at Island Lane, Waterford County Council has advised that, as this work is reinstatement and repair work, planning permission is not required. Negotiations are currently in progress with contractors with a view to commencing the works next month. It is hoped to have the Island Lane works completed in early summer.
