Vol. 565 No. 2

Written Answers. - Water Fluoridation.

John Gormley

Ceist:

309 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will provide details of annual volumes and cost per gallon of hydrofluorosilicic acid imported by a company (details supplied) on behalf of the Eastern Regional Health Authority from a company (details supplied); and the reason the suppliers were changed from a company (details supplied) in Rotterdam. [10590/03]

In Ireland public water supplies are fluoridated with hydrofluorosilicic acid. Since 1990, the Eastern Health Board, now the Eastern Regional Health Authority, has acted as agent for the nation's health boards for the purchase of hydrofluorosilicic acid. The chief executive officer of the Eastern Regional Health Authority has informed me that the annual volume and cost per gallon of hydrofluorosilicic acid is 720,000 gallons at €1.09 per gallon. Hydrofluorosilicic acid is provided by Derivados Del Flour S.A. Kemira Pernis, Rotterdam, has ceased operations.
