Vol. 565 No. 2

Written Answers. - Garda Stations.

Paul Kehoe

Ceist:

315 Mr. Kehoe asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if consideration is being given to the provision of a Garda barracks in Adamstown, New Ross, County Wexford; if a decision has been made on the request for this service; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10465/03]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that Adamstown is in the Carrickbyrne sub-district. The current strength – all ranks – of Carrickbyrne Garda station as at 8 April 2003 is two. I am further informed that, following consideration of the optimum location of the Garda station for the policing of this area, senior Garda management decided that the station should remain in Carrickbyrne. Accordingly, the move to Adamstown was not recommended. Garda management will continue to appraise the policing and administrative policy employed in Carrickbyrne and Adamstown with a view to ensuring that an efficient Garda service is maintained.
