Vol. 565 No. 2

Written Answers. - Planning Applications.

John Gormley

Ceist:

326 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will take measures to ensure that special interest groups such as canoeists are made aware of developments at the planning stage in future. [10592/03]

Revised requirements regarding public notice of intention to make a planning application were established by part 4 of the Planning and Development Regulations 2001. These include a requirement to give notice of intention to make the application in an approved newspaper, and the erection or fixing of a site notice or site notices in accordance with detailed requirements set out in the regulations. The regulations also require each planning authority to publish weekly lists of planning applications received by them.

I am satisfied these requirements provide reasonable and adequate publicity around proposed developments. It would be inappropriate to add to them at this time either in relation to the type of development mentioned in the Deputy's question or otherwise.
