Vol. 565 No. 3

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Charlie O'Connor

Ceist:

177 Mr. O'Connor asked the Minister for Education and Science if he is considering innovative means of providing the long promised physical education hall at Firhouse Community College, Dublin 24; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10688/03]

The 2003 school building programme has been published and details in relation to individual projects are now available on my Department's website at www.education.ie.

The PE hall project at Firhouse Community College is at an advanced stage of architectural planning, that is, pre-tender, and is included in section 6 of the published programme. However, given the level of financial commitments to be met from projects already in construction, my Department does not envisage that it will be in a position during this year to allow architectural planning for large scale projects to progress beyond their current authorised stage. The project at Firhouse Community College will, however, be considered for the 2004 capital programme.

Richard Bruton

Ceist:

178 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science the progress being made in the issuing of the tender for works in a school (details supplied) in Dublin 3; and if immediate arrangements will be made to fast-track security measures which have been demanded by insurers. [10695/03]

The 2003 school building programme has now been published and full details in relation to individual projects are available on my Department's website at www.education.ie. On the basis of the budgetary allocation it was not possible to include any further projects in 2003.

The budgetary allocation for 2004 and subsequent years will determine the rate of progress on projects that could not be included in this year's programme. In the meantime, individual schools should use their devolved grant to deal with any urgent health and safety works.
