Vol. 565 No. 3

Written Answers. - School Accommodation.

Emmet Stagg

Ceist:

191 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Education and Science the nature of the temporary accommodation units which he has sanctioned for Gaelscoil Uí Fhiaich, Maynooth, County Kildare, for 2003; the number of units sought by the school; when the permanent building might start, based on resources in 2003 at least being matched in the next four years; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10716/03]

Based on the 2003 budgetary allocation for school buildings, my Department allocated €8.6 million towards the cost of providing temporary accommodation in 104 primary schools. These schools are listed in section 12 of the programme and includes provision for two classrooms at Gaelscoil Uí Fhiaich, Maynooth. On the basis of the budgetary allocation it was not possible to include any further projects in 2003.

The budgetary allocation for 2004 and subsequent years will determine the rate of progress on applications that could not be included in this year's programme. In the meantime, individual schools should use their devolved grant to deal with any urgent health and safety works.
