Vol. 565 No. 3

Written Answers. - Dublin Bay Strategy Plan.

John Gormley

Ceist:

251 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources if he will give a date for the start of the strategic study of Dublin Bay, given that a steering group to prepare an overall strategy plan for Dublin Bay has been in place for some time now; and the names of the members of this steering group. [10957/03]

My Department's strategy statement for the period 2001-2003 indicated that it was proposed to carry out a strategic study on the requirements for the long-term development of Dublin Bay.

A preliminary steering group was established in connection with the proposed study and comprised representatives of my Department, the Department of the Environment and Local Government, the Department of Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands and the Marine Institute. While the group met on two occasions to consider preliminary issues, it was not possible, given other commitments and priorities, to progress the study.

It is not proposed to proceed with this study at present. The position will, however, be kept under review in the context of my Department's overall work relating to the development of more integrated approaches to the management of coastal areas.
