Vol. 565 No. 3

Written Answers. - Bord na gCon.

Jack Wall

Ceist:

272 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism the meetings he or his officials have had with Bord na gCon since his Department became responsible for the greyhound industry; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10905/03]

I have had a number of meetings with Bord na gCon since I assumed responsibility for the industry last year.

I attended a formal meeting with the board of Bord na gCon on 5 December 2002 at which a number of issues were discussed, including the strategic development of the sport of greyhound racing.

On 3 February, 2003 I met the chief executives-senior managers of all of the agencies under my Department, including Bord na gCon to outline and discuss the requirements demanded by Government in relation to financial management and corporate governance on the part of state agencies.

Outside of these formal discussions, I also meet the chairman, members of the board, senior management and staff of the board on a regular basis in the context of my attendance at venues and official functions organised by the board throughout the year.

My officials also have had a number of meetings with senior management of the board and are in regular, ongoing contact as part of the Department's delivery of its responsibilities and functions in relation to Bord na gCon.

I recently appointed an official from my Department to the board of Bord na gCon.
