Written Answers. - Public Transport.

Joe Higgins

Ceist:

360 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for Transport the reason his Department has refused to give Bus Átha Cliath permission to extend the bus service to the new Tyrrelstown development in Blanchardstown despite the application being made just under one year ago. [11090/03]

Joe Higgins

Ceist:

361 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for Transport if he will permit Bus Átha Cliath to immediately extend its service to Tyrrelstown, Blanchardstown in view of the growing population and the urgent need for a much more frequent bus service. [11091/03]

I propose to Questions Nos. 360 and 361 together.

Since 10 January 2001, Dublin Bus is required to notify my Department at least four weeks in advance of the commencement of proposed new services or proposed amendments to existing services. In line with this direction, Dublin Bus noti fied my Department in March 2002 of the proposed introduction of a new service, route no. 38C. My Department notified Dublin Bus in May 2002 that the company could proceed with the introduction of route no. 38C to service the Tyrrelstown area.
Dublin Bus also notified my Department in April 2002 of the proposed introduction of a new service, route no. 40D. My Department notified Dublin Bus in December 2002 that the company could proceed with the introduction of route no. 40D which also services the Tyrrelstown area.
In addition to the above, a notification was received from Dublin Bus on 6 March 2003 requesting additional services on the 38C route that currently serves Tyrrelstown. My Department is currently reviewing this notification and expects to finalise its deliberations shortly.
