Vol. 565 No. 3

Written Answers. - Court Business.

John Bruton

Ceist:

371 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he proposes to accept the recommendations of the National Competitiveness Council that a special division of the High Court be formally established to deal with infrastructural and environmental planning appeals. [10776/03]

As the Deputy will appreciate, the President of the High Court is responsible for the allocation of business among the judges of the High Court. I understand that, where possible, the president allocates court business on the basis of the expertise and experience of particular judges. In relation to planning matters in particular, the president, subject to other judicial commitments, allocates a judge with particular expertise and experience in infrastructural and environmental planning matters to deal specifically with such cases.
