Vol. 565 No. 3

Written Answers. - Community Policing.

Mary Upton

Ceist:

389 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the up to date position on funding for a co-ordinator for a project (details supplied). [10998/03]

I have been informed by the garda authorities that the community policing forum in the ‘A' district – Kevin Street-Kilmainham – has been in operation on a pilot basis since 2000. The forum operates through a model which was agreed by community and Garda representatives following a protracted period of consultation. The forum is operated through three community level fora and one district level forum. The forum to which the Deputy refers is one of the community level fora.

The original community policing forum did not provide for the provision of a co-ordinator. However, following an independent evaluation of the forum, the issue of the provision of a co-ordinator was raised. This matter is currently under consideration.
