Ceist:

407 Mr. P. McGrath asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if employees of local authorities, health boards and Departments are permitted to stand as candidates for elections to local authorities due in 2004; and if persons are excluded, the grades of employees who are excluded. Minister for the Environment and Local Government (Mr. Cullen):

Under existing arrangements, local authority employees above grade three level are ineligible for membership of a local authority. Relevant criteria for health board employees are a matter for the Minister for Health and Children and for civil servants are a matter for the Minister for Finance.
