Vol. 565 No. 3

Written Answers. - Information Security.

Mary Upton

Ceist:

68 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources if he will report on proposals to base the European Network and Information Security Agency at the digital hub in Dublin; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10821/03]

The European Commission following on European Council resolutions on network and information security has proposed the establishment of a European Network and Information Security Agency which is to act as a European centre of expertise on network and information security issues. The preparatory work for the establishment of the agency will be undertaken by a temporary task force. The Commission has recently committed to this group starting its work on 1 July 2003 and finishing by the end of 2003 with a view to the agency coming into existence in January 2004. There has been no decision to date as to how the location of the agency will be determined.
