Vol. 565 No. 3

Written Answers. - Postal Services.

Mary Upton

Ceist:

86 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources his views on the instruction from ComReg to An Post to renegiotiate its agreement with European post offices for the delivery of international mail in Ireland; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10822/03]

Under Regulation 10 of the European Communities (Postal Services) Regulations 2002, the Commission for Communications Regulation is responsible for ensuring compliance by An Post with a number of principles, including the principle that remuneration must be fixed in relation to the cost of processing and delivering international mail, applicable to the agreements which cover the delivery of international mail. I have no statutory function in the matter.

However, as the main shareholder in An Post, I am concerned at the scale of losses being incurred by the company on their international mails operations and welcome any measures which will enable the company to put this element of their business on a more financially sustainable footing.

Question No. 87 answered with Question No. 71.
