Vol. 565 No. 3

Written Answers. - Army Barracks.

Jerry Cowley

Ceist:

119 Dr. Cowley asked the Minister for Defence if he will honour the promise made during the last election to upgrade the catering and accommodation facilities at Castlebar Military Barracks to required minimum standards; if he will ensure the installation of the digital indoor range theatre, DIRT, which will allow training of all army units from within the 4th Western Brigade at the least and which would have the potential to train all reserve units here; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10625/03]

Upgrading of facilities at Castlebar Barracks in 2002 was carried out at a cost of €185,000. While there are no plans in this year's building programme for further works of a permanent nature, the question of any additional facilities will be kept under review. It is not the intention to install a digital indoor range theatre at Castlebar Barracks as such facilities are already available at a Permanent Defence Force location in the western brigade. These facilities are available for use by the reserve.

Question No. 120 answered with Question No. 116.
