Vol. 566 No. 3

Written Answers. - Border Incursions.

Martin Ferris

Ceist:

231 Mr. Ferris asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will make a statement on the crossing of the Border between South Armagh and Louth by a British Army helicopter on 6 May 2003. [12868/03]

As the Deputy is aware, the Government regards unauthorised incursions by British security forces into the State as a serious matter. On each occasion when such an incident is reported to my Department, the matter is raised with the British Government. I therefore asked that this incident be raised with the British authorities through the British-Irish Intergovernmental Secretariat. The British authorities have responded that, following investigation of the matter, they are satisfied that no Border incursion took place on that date. If the Deputy wishes to provide further information on the alleged incursion, I would be happy to raise the matter again with the British Government.
