322 Mr. O'Connor asked the Minister for Health and Children if his attention has been drawn to the concerns of the Irish Association of Physical Therapists as conveyed to Members of the Houses of the Oireachtas; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12683/03]
I have received correspondence from the Irish Association of Physical Therapists and representatives of this association met with officials of my Department on 21 March last to discuss their concerns. Action 105 of the health strategy commits my Department to strengthening and expanding provisions for statutory registration of health professionals. In this context, legislation is currently being prepared to establish a system of statutory registration for health and social care professionals. In drafting the legislation, further advice and examination will be required of the many complex legal, competition and public interest issues that arise, including in relation to protection of title.
