Vol. 566 No. 3

Written Answers. - Health Centre Redevelopment.

Charlie O'Connor

Ceist:

323 Mr. O'Connor asked the Minister for Health and Children his views on the unacceptable delays in respect of the redevelopment of the Millbrook Lawns Health Centre, Tallaght, Dublin 24; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the condition of this important facility is of great concern to staff, clients and the general community; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12684/03]

The provision of health centres to meet the needs of local communities and the maintenance and upgrading of such centres within its functional area is a matter for the relevant health board or the Eastern Regional Health Authority. In the case of Millbrook Lawns Health Centre, Tallaght, Dublin 24, this responsibility rests with the Eastern Regional Health Authority.

I have raised the matter with the ERHA who have advised me that Millbrook Lawns Health Centre in Tallaght provides a wide range of health services to the local area including medical, public health nursing, social work services, speech and language therapy, dental services, community welfare, addiction services and administration. To facilitate the ongoing provision of services from the existing centre, repairs and improvements are made on a regular basis.

The redevelopment of Millbrook Lawns Health Centre has been identified as a major capital project for the ERHA. The authority is currently pursuing approval for the next stage, that is, the approval for the design team which is being considered in the context of the national review of capital expenditure under the national development plan, currently being considered by my Department.
