Vol. 566 No. 3

Written Answers. - Garda Commissioner.

Jim O'Keeffe

Ceist:

154 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the procedures for the selection of the new Garda Commissioner; the pool of persons to be considered; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12819/03]

The power to appoint a Garda Commissioner is exclusively vested in the Government by virtue of section 6(2) of the Police Forces Amalgamation Act 1925.

The procedure to select a commissioner and the pool of persons considered is a matter for Government to determine, when the making of such an appointment is required.

Question No. 155 answered with Question No. 143.
