Vol. 567 No. 1

Written Answers. - Departmental Contracts.

Billy Timmins

Ceist:

269 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for Education and Science if his Department has a contract or contracts for the purchase of foodstuffs; if so, the value of these contracts; if the origin of any of the foodstuffs is from outside this country; if so, the value of these; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13845/03]

My Department is currently in the process of re-tendering in respect of catering services for staff in its Tullamore and Athlone premises. Also, tenders will shortly be sought for similar provision in a new restaurant facility in the Dublin complex in Marlborough Street. These contracts will be for the provision of a range of catering services on an agreed price list and on a direct payment basis by staff. In addition, refreshments such as teas, sandwiches and biscuits are provided for meetings and workgroups on the Department's premises. Expenditure on this provision was approximately €75,000 in 2002. It is not known to what extent this food originated outside the State.
