Vol. 567 No. 1

Written Answers. - Public Order Offences.

Tony Gregory

Ceist:

367 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform further to his reply to Parliamentary Question No. 640 of 5 November 2002, the action subsequently taken by the Garda authorities at Mountjoy Garda station, Dublin 7, regarding the allegations of anti-social and criminal activity of occupants of the houses referred to; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13407/03]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that two incidents have been reported since 1 November 2002 in relation to the location referred to by the Deputy. Both incidents are still currently under investigation. This area is considered to be a meeting point for young people who reside outside the area. These gatherings have resulted at times in anti-social behaviour. As a result of regular patrols and attention to the area by local gardaí, difficulties with such youths have been reduced considerably in recent months.

Gardaí from Mountjoy Garda station, and in particular the local community gardaí, are aware of past and present difficulties in this area. I am assured that they will continue to give the area ongoing attention, and will also continue to liaise with local residents' associations.
