Vol. 567 No. 1

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Payments.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

445 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Social and Family Affairs the reason a person (details supplied) in County Mayo did not receive the fuel allowance since her spouse passed away in January 2003. [13808/03]

To qualify for a payment under the national fuel scheme, the total income, including widow's contributory pension, of a widow who is under 66 years of age may not exceed €181.09 per week.

The person concerned has farm income which, when combined with her pension entitlement, exceeds the limit for the fuel allowance. Accordingly her application for the fuel allowance was disallowed. If her financial circumstances have altered, she should inform the Department and her entitlement under the national fuel scheme will be reviewed.
