Vol. 567 No. 1

Written Answers. - World Trade Organisation.

Michael D. Higgins

Ceist:

142 Mr. M. Higgins asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the Government Ministers who will be attending the WTO conference in Cancun, Mexico, on behalf of the Irish delegation; if non-governmental organisations will be represented in the delegation; the meetings and other consultations she proposes to initiate before the conference; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [13870/03]

The composition of the Irish delegation for the Fifth World Trade Organisation ministerial meeting in Cancún, Mexico will be along the lines of similar representation in previous ministerial meetings, the most recent being that to Doha in November 2001. The Irish delegation will comprise myself as Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment and include other ministerial colleagues including the Minister for Agriculture and Food, Deputy Joe Walsh and the Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs with special responsibility for overseas development and human rights, Deputy Tom Kitt. These will be accompanied by officials from relevant Departments and agencies, and the delegation will also include representatives of non-governmental organisations.

As has been the practice in the past, there will be consultation in the lead-in to the ministerial meeting in Cancún, and I will be available to meet with interested parties during the period of the conference.
