Vol. 567 No. 1

Written Answers. - Grocery Industry.

Brendan Howlin

Ceist:

145 Mr. Howlin asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if her Department has recently reviewed the operation of the Groceries Order; her plans to amend or rescind the Groceries Order in the near future; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [13450/03]

When I reviewed the operation of the Restrictive Practices (Groceries) Order 1987 in 2000, I indicated that I would keep the matter under review. The Government is committed to addressing any factors which impinge negatively on consumers or which contribute to inflationary pressures. In so far as my own responsibilities in this area are concerned, I am looking at the operation of the order and I am considering whether any action in relation to it is necessary or desirable.
