Vol. 568 No. 6

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

312 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government if and when provision will be made to accommodate extensions to the public sewerage system in County Kildare; if public private partnerships are involved; the towns, villages or settlements currently in need of such facilities; the time-scale for same; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17132/03]

Details of approved water services schemes in County Kildare are set out in my Department's water services investment programme for 2002-04, a copy of which is available in the Oireachtas Library.

My Department's policy for the procurement of new wastewater treatment infrastructure favours the use of public-private partnerships, employing the design-build-operate model. The appropriate procurement route in each case is determined as part of the scheme planning process. The following approved wastewater treatment schemes in Kildare are currently being advanced for procurement as public-private partnerships: Kildare sludge treatment centre; lower Liffey Valley sewerage scheme – Leixlip; upper Liffey Valley sewerage scheme, stage 3 – Osberstown.
