27 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the progress which has been made in regard to his consideration of the establishment of a Garda reserve force; the role and powers of such a force; the numbers that would be recruited; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The establishment of a Garda Síochána reserve force is one of a number of measures I am considering in the preparation of comprehensive proposals which I will submit shortly to Government in relation to the Garda Síochána. There can be no doubt of the progress made to date in the area of crime and no doubt of our continued commitment to maintaining and improving our criminal justice system throughout the lifetime of this Government.
