Vol. 569 No. 1

Written Answers. - Law Reform Commission.

Brendan Howlin

Ceist:

41 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if it is intended to implement the recommendations of the Law Reform Commission on penalties for minor offences, particularly the recommendation that fines should be adjusted according to people's ability to pay and that corporations should pay higher fines than individuals; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17100/03]

I refer the Deputy to the reply I gave to Question No. 192 tabled on 13 May 2003. The information I gave in that reply remains unchanged. However, I can say that the working group established by the Courts Service board in January 2002 to examine and report on the organisation and jurisdictions of the courts will be presenting to me next month its report on the first module, criminal jurisdiction.
