Vol. 569 No. 4

Written Answers. - Redundancy Payments.

Ned O'Keeffe

Ceist:

154 Mr. N. O'Keeffe asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if a person can be disqualified from receiving redundancy payments if they are over a particular age. [18055/03]

A person who has reached the age of 66 at the date of termination of employment is not eligible for payment of a statutory redundancy lump sum. This is because section 4(5) of the Redundancy Payments Act 1979 defines an eligible employee as an employee between the age of 16 and old age pension age, which at present is 66 years of age.
