Vol. 569 No. 4

Written Answers. - Capital Projects.

John McGuinness

Ceist:

183 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Education and Science if a reply has issued to the chairperson of the steering group of NUI Maynooth project, St Kieran's College, Kilkenny, and Bishop Forristal regarding the future development of the Kilkenny campus; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17925/03]

A response was issued in July 2002 to the chairperson of the steering group of NUI Maynooth project, St. Kieran's College, Kilkenny, and Most Rev. L. Forristal, DD, Bishop of Ossory. The response stated that to consider capital funding for refurbishment of accommodation for the St Kieran's College Outreach Centre, Kilkenny, a firm proposal should be made by the National University of Ireland, Maynooth, to the Higher Education Authority in the first instance. To date no proposal regarding St. Kieran's has been submitted by NUI Maynooth to the Higher Education Authority.

The authority, at my request, is undertaking a review of all capital projects in the third level sector to establish prioritisation and agree rephasing in preparation for a building programme in 2004 and future years. As part of this exercise, the authority has established a working group, and all relevant third level institutions including NUI Maynooth have been invited to make submissions to this group on all their capital requirements.
