It is my Department's longstanding policy that, to the extent possible, public buildings of historical significance should permit some access to the public. A number of public buildings of historical significance are currently in the care of my Department, including Castletown, Derrynane House, Emo Court, the Casino, Marino, Muckross House and others. The public is admitted to these buildings at specified times. Plans are being prepared to carry out works at Doneraile Court, which will facilitate public access to the building. Admission of the public to buildings of historical significance owned or managed by other State Departments or public sector bodies is a matter for those organisations into which my Department does not propose at present to intervene.
