Vol. 570 No. 2

Written Answers. - Departmental Staff.

Jack Wall

Ceist:

194 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Defence if his Department will check the payments due to a person (details supplied) to ensure that all their entitlements have been paid; if the relevant payment will be made; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18762/03]

The civilian employee referred to in the Deputy's question has been paid all his entitlements by my Department. Civilian employees are subject to the Civil Service sick leave regulations as laid down in public service circular 25/78. Under these regulations, an individual may be entitled to full pay up to a maximum of six months in one year and half pay thereafter, subject to a maximum of 12 months' sick leave in any period of four years or less.

In accordance with circular 25/78, this civilian employee went on half pay with effect from 28 January 2003 due to his sick leave record over the previous 12 months and went back on full pay upon resumption to duty on 14 April 2003. He did not receive a full weeks pay cheque on his first week back in work as the pay week for civilian employees runs from Friday to Thursday, inclusive, and he was on half pay for the previous Friday, 11 April 2003.
