Vol. 570 No. 2

Written Answers. - Health Board Allowances.

Gay Mitchell

Ceist:

400 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Health and Children if a person (details supplied) in Dublin 12 is entitled to foster parent's allowance; and if so, if this will issue. [18512/03]

The foster care allowance is paid in respect of children who have been taken into the care of a health board under the provisions of the Child Care Act 1991 for their care and protection and placed in foster care or relative care by the health board in accordance with the Child Care (Placement of Children in Foster Care) Regulations, 1995 or the Child Care (Placement of Children with Relatives) Regulations, 1995. Under the regulations, a health board must assess the needs of a child placed in care and the suitability of the prospective foster or relative carers and draw up a child care plan. The Deputy will appreciate that responsibility in relation to the individual case referred to by him is a matter for the South-Western Area Health Board. My Department has therefore asked the chief executive of the Eastern Regional Health Authority to have the matter investigated by the area health board and a direct reply issued to the Deputy as soon as possible.
