Vol. 570 No. 2

Written Answers. - Driving Tests.

John McGuinness

Ceist:

465 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Transport the reason the driving tests were cancelled without due notice on 21 June 2003 at the Kilkenny city test centre; if a substitute tester is not available at short notice; if those taking the test will now be given an early appointment with similar times to the original; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18760/03]

My Department has a procedure in place to provide cover where a driver tester is unable to conduct driving tests at short notice. However, it is not possible to provide cover in all such cases. I recognise that this causes inconvenience to candidates scheduled for test and every effort is made to minimise the number of tests cancelled by my Department.

Tests were rearranged for Saturday, 29 June, at the Kilkenny test centre for all the applicants affected. Where a candidate, whose scheduled test is cancelled due to the unavailability of the tester, applies to my Department with details of expenses incurred, the question of the reimbursement of such expenses will be considered.
