Vol. 570 No. 2

Written Answers. - Refugee Status.

John McGuinness

Ceist:

489 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the status of an application by a person (details supplied) in Dublin 1 for family reunification; if the nine family members concerned will be admitted to the country without delay; the timeframe involved in this process; when a decision is likely in the case; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18551/03]

The applicant in question was granted refugee status in the State. He made an application for family reunification in February 2003. As required by section 18 of the Refugee Act 1996, the application was forwarded to the Refugee Applications Commissioner for investigation. I understand that documentation requested by that office from the applicant was submitted last week. A report on the investigation of the application will be prepared and forwarded by the commissioner to my Department in the near future. Upon receipt of that report the application will be carefully considered and a decision will issue shortly thereafter.
